Origins
The Sakalava people are a coastal ethnic group primarily found in the western regions of Madagascar. Historically, they established powerful kingdoms that controlled much of the island's trade routes.
Customs and Culture
Sakalava culture includes ancestor worship, with the "tromba" (spirit possession) rituals playing a significant role in their spiritual life. They have a tradition of boat-building and are known for their musical instruments, such as "valiha" (a bamboo tube zither).
