The Giraavaru people were traditionally an indigenous community with a distinct culture who originally inhabited Giraavaru Island, located near the capital, Malé. The community's origins are believed to date back over a thousand years. Due to urban expansion and environmental changes, they were relocated to Malé in the 1960s.
Customs and Culture
The Giraavaru had distinct cultural practices, including their own traditional attire, music, and dance forms. While the original island is no longer inhabited, efforts have been made to preserve Giraavaru cultural traditions.
